Fined 210 million VND for loan sharking

The Bac Kan Provincial Court opened a trial against Nguyen Thi Uyen, Le Thi Thao and Nguyen Toan Trung, on charges of lending at high interest rates in civil transactions.

The three defendants above were fined 210 million VND by the People’s Court of Bac Kan province.

From August 2019 to January 2023, these three people lent money to many different people from 20 to 200 million VND, with interest rates from 108%/year to 180%/year.

The interest rate is from 5.4 to 9 times higher than the highest interest rate, specified in Article 468 of the Civil Code.

The defendants illegally profited from 26 to 80 million VND.

The jury fined defendant Nguyen Thi Uyen 80 million VND, Le Thi Thao 70 million VND and Nguyen Toan Trung 60 million VND.

The defendants were also banned from practicing pawn lending for a period of 3 years.
