The Criminal Police Department of Nam Dinh Province Police has detained two people in Truc Ninh District, Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam detective service.
These two people are Ha Van Hao and Ha Manh Cuong to investigate and handle the act of fraud and appropriation of property.
Hao played with Mr. D.V.P., residing in Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam. Hao knew that Mr. P. was being detained by the police for gambling.
Hao impersonated Mr. P. and texted his wife to scam her out of money, saying he needed to buy more food in prison and was worried about running for bail.
Thinking that Hao was her husband, Mr. P.’s wife transferred money 10 times to the accounts provided by the impersonated husband, totaling nearly 3.5 billion VND.
Ha Van Hao also texted a close friend of Mr. P.’s family to borrow money and defrauded this person of more than 1.2 billion VND.
Ha Manh Cuong did not stop or denounce Hao but instead assisted and supported his younger brother’s illegal acts.
Cuong borrowed bank accounts from many people for Hao to use as accounts to receive money from the victims. After each successful scam, Hao would share the money with Cuong.
In February 2025, suspecting that the person texting and talking to her was not her husband, the wife filed a complaint with the police.
