The case was discovered in Can Tho Vietnam – A man named Do Thanh Son, 38, in Hanoi brought a package containing rhino horn on a flight from South Korea to Can Tho but declared as Koi fish, the the discovery and making a record.
Accordingly, on March 20, 2020, Son was prosecuted and detained by Can Tho City Police to clarify the violation of regulations on management and protection of endangered and rare animals – detective service in Ho Chi Minh.
Sacking Son’s luggage through a scanner, the Customs force at Can Tho airport gate saw signs of suspicion with the goods inside. Authorities requested to coordinate the inspection, but Son disagreed.
Son thinks that the luggage inside of the Koi carp is processed. If opened, the fish will die because there is no oxygen supply system, great damage.
After a period of more than three working hours, the functional force checked the package, discovered 11 samples of rhino horns, weighing more than 28.7 kg.
Son spent 14 days in intensive isolation at Can Tho military school, stabilized Son’s health and was sent to a detention center to continue his investigation.
