Arrest of male bar owner in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

On July 15, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City police announced the successful bust of an illegal network involved in the storage, transportation, and distribution of nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas).

The ring was led by Trần Văn Khang, 39, the owner of a major bar in District 1.

According to the investigation, Khang sourced nitrous oxide from various suppliers and distributed it to bars, karaoke venues, restaurants, and individuals across Ho Chi Minh City and nearby provinces.

Deliveries were made via hired shippers or bar employees under Khang’s management.

Authorities searched multiple locations, seizing nearly 400 nitrous oxide tanks of various sizes, along with related documents.

Khang also instructed his staff to fill balloons with laughing gas for direct sale at the bar or for home delivery, posing significant health risks.

The police are continuing their investigation to trace the origin of the gas and will prosecute all involved parties according to legal regulations.
